Tokyoflash: Unique futuristic Japanese Watches

reviewed by Michael Day

If you're looking for a gift for that special geek that thinks he or she has everything, have I got a gift recommendation for you? Keep in mind that I haven't worn a watch regularly since the battery in my Casio Databank watch went dead. That has changed... dramatically.

We received two watches for review, both from the prestigious Tokyoflash, THE home of very limited edition Japanese watches. These aren't your grandfather's watches. I'll tell you up front, their displays are vastly different than anything else out there and take a little getting used to. And they're a bit larger than your average watch. But then again, these two beauties are as much a fashion statement as they are timepieces.

Both watches are only sold at specialty shops in Japan and online at Tokyoflash, so you can be relatively certain that outside Japan, you won't bump into anyone else with the same watch.

Forget the old-school dial and hands. These watches not only feature unique styling, but one-of-a-kind readouts unlike any I've ever seen.

The duo we received were the Barcode, pictured above, and the Pimpin' Ain't Easy IP Gold, as seen here. They both feature bright LEDs sure to capture the attention of anyone that catches a glimpse of them in action. And they both have a light up function that causes them to flash once a minute between 6 pm and 1 am to make sure everyone within eyesight does catch a glimpse. It's also  a great way show off their unique LED design.

Barcode

The multi-colored LEDs are bigger than the Pimp line of watches, making the colors really bright and easy to see. The light up function will draw the attention of anyone within eyesight. The standard features of the Barcode model watch are:

bulletTime 12/24 hour
bulletBinary L.E.D.
bulletAM PM indicator
bulletDay and Date
bulletLight up function
bulletEnglish Instructions
bulletRare item
bulletOne Year Warranty

Pimpin' Ain't Easy IP Gold

The uni-colored LEDs light up varying amounts of the face, but takes very little practice to read. And as with the Barcode model, the light up function is a real attention getter. The watch features are:

bulletLimited Production
bulletVery Rare
bulletTime, Day and Date
bullet18 Carat Gold IP Plated
bulletLight up on and off in a spiral every two minutes
bulletEnglish Instructions
bulletWater resistant
bulletOne Year Warranty

Tokyofalsh also offers a number of other, equally cool, limited edition watches sure to make the wearer feel very special and trendy. And you can rest easy that no one else on the block will be sporting the same watch.
